Skincare Products & Tips for Acne-prone Skin

If there's one thing that has been affecting my confidence lately, it's probably my trouble with acne every now and then. I've been going back and forth with this acne problem for a year now, so I thought I might as well share with you some of the things I learned in this journey and some of the products that actually worked for me.

Recent photo wearing make up. Notice the bumps on my cheeks 😐

This is intended for those who have just started getting a sudden surge of pimples and eventually, acne. It can be frustrating to see these tiny dots on your face when you've been so used to that clear, unblemished skin. Trust me, I had such clear skin before! But then life happens, and stress + pollution happens too. 😂 Don't let it get to you, though! Don't mind those people who have nothing to say but "uy, gibugas lagi ka" or "na unsa man na imong nawong? di ba hamis man na sauna?". As if you don't look at the mirror and see that everyday. They really feel like they have to say it out loud, huh? 😒

Before anything else, I think it's super important to see a dermatologist first. Who knows, it might actually be easily treatable given the right management and medications. If you just go on haphazardly trying out products, it might just make the matter worse. One product could be effective for others while it might not work for you, as you do not have the same condition. It's best to visit a doctor first. It was easier for me to manage my acne after visiting the derma, as she explained to me thoroughly why acne happens, what could be possible causes and what products or activities to avoid. Find a derma that takes the time to really talk to you to diagnose what's going on. Message me if you want to know who I visited for my initial acne treatment.

Now, here are some tips and products that I can recommend so far! I'm just speaking from experience. 😂 More products to try soon and will post a review as soon as I try it for at least 2-3 weeks.

Tip #1: Keep everything clean!

  • Regularly clean and store well your make up brushes, sponges, or anything that you keep using that will touch your face (cotton pads, etc.)
  • Wash your hair before sleeping and keep your hair away from your face. Some dust and dirt on your hair can find themselves "sleeping" on your face too when you don't do this.
  • Wash your bed sheets and pillow case regularly. And even the stuffed animals that you have on your bed.
  • After washing my face, I just let it air dry. I can't always trust my towel to be 100% free from dust and other acne-causing stuff, so I don't pat it on my face after washing. I also make sure my hands are clean and sanitized before putting my night cream, toner, etc.
  • And for those who are fond of having their eyebrows plucked at a salon, make sure it's sanitary!

Tip #2: Choose your products wisely! And use make up in moderation. 😉

  • One major cause of my severe acne last year was the make up that I kept using everyday. Always choose make up that's non comedogenic. I also think it's best to stick to more natural, organic and cruelty-free products.
  • You can also find make up that also has combined ingredients that help with the redness and swelling. Check reviews online before purchasing new make up. Find out what other acne-prone users have to say about it.
  • Just put make up where you need it, and use it in moderation. Sure, you will feel the need to cover up all your blemishes and acne, but I found out the hard way that covering it up with color corrector, concealer, then liquid foundation and powder made matters so much worse! Just go full coverage only when you really, really need to.
  • Some shampoo, conditioners, and even toothpaste could be an irritant for your skin, causing it to break out. For shampoo and conditioners, I stick to the ones with lighter consistency (I avoid those that say "keratin treatment" or "heavy moisture"). For toothpaste, I avoid those flavored/colored ones and try to stick to the original Colgate or Sensodyne.
Tip #3: Don't touch it!
  • Try to avoid touching your pimples or pricking it. It will only make it scar and take longer to heal.
  • When applying creams, toners, spot correctors, avoid over handling your face. It's enough that the product gets absorbed. Also, another tip, apply when your face is still damp and not when it's completely dry already.
Now for the products that I use:

It's a bit on the pricey side, but this really works for me. Although, the results aren't really overnight. Tea tree helps with the redness and swelling that's why I like it.

Click on the links to check out the ones that I personally use:

The name says it all. 3-in-1 wash scrub mask 796 php (125ml)

I use this as my daily facial cleanser: Squeaky Clean Scrub 476php (100ml)

The coverage isn't much but I use it as concealer/medication if I really, really need to put on make up on my pimples/acne: Flawless BB Cream 795 php (40ml)

2. Aztec Indian Healing Clay

I try to use it once to twice a week. It minimizes my pores!
Just don't mind the tugging sensation on your face. You'll get used to it.

You can buy at Beautymnl here: Aztec Indian Healing Clay 525 php (454g)
But I bought mine at UrbanHub Dumaguete. 😉

3. Human Nature Night Moisturizer and 100% Natural Tea Tree Oil

I can't praise this product enough! So much love for this night moisturizer. I don't really use it every night. For some reason I prefer skipping a night or two just to let my face breathe also.

Human Nature Tea Tree Oil 295 php (30ml)

I put a drop of this oil with my moisturizer or I spread a drop on the areas that are really painful and swelling.

4. St. Ives Apricot and Green Tea for exfoliating

It's important to exfoliate every once in a while, to remove dry/dead skin cells and also to unclog your pores thoroughly. It also helps with circulation, and it helps reveal a more healthy, glowing skin. I prefer using these maybe twice a week, after my cleanser.

You can purchase these at Watsons or order at Beautymnl.

5. Celeteque Dermoscience

Let's be honest. There will really be times when we don't have the budget to splurge on 400-700php worth of skincare products for daily use. Good thing there's Celeteque to the rescue! Affordable and effective. It works for me on what I call "maintenance days" when my face is miraculously a bit "free" from troubling acne.

For my daily facial wash: Acne Solutions- Acne Cleansing Gel 270 php (50ml)
For my daily toner: Acne Solutions- Oil Control Toner 85 php (65 ml)

Bonus:
Another product that worked for me is the Innisfree Bija & Tea Tree Capsule Recipe Pack
You can buy it at Beautymnl for just 90 php since it's on sale!

That's it! I hope this helps you on your troubles with acne!
Share with me some other products that also worked on you. 😉
Next on my list are the Cosrx Products! Keep posted for my review on that.

Love,
Lora 😘

Am I a toxic person?: How to practice mindfulness

So a couple of weeks back, I asked some of my followers on what topic they'd like me to write about and one of the questions I got was this: "How do I know if I'm a toxic person? How can I avoid being toxic?" I found it interesting because a lot of people don't ever ask themselves that question. Often times we're looking for "how to deal with toxic people" but not so much about "how can I avoid being a toxic person" . So how do you know if you're a toxic person? Well to start off, what do we mean by "toxic person" ? Here's a list of some common signs : 1. They try to control you by guilt tripping . Common phrases most probably used is "Uy sis, favor. Cge na. Friends bitaw ta.", e ven though they know that what they're asking you to do is probably inconvenient or annoying for you. They can't take "no" and instead say things like "I've done so much for you a
