I've been getting a LOT of questions from people who are interested in visiting Bohol! As one of the prime tourist destinations in the country, Bohol is filled with visitors all year round. And being a Boholana, I take pride in what my beautiful hometown has to offer. There's just so many things you can do in Bohol. So that's why I've made this "When In Bohol" series to address all your needs for your next Bohol vacation!
If you don't have the luxury to go on a week-long vacation, don't worry because you can savor the best of Bohol even with just 2-3 days. My basic "formula" for a Bohol trip is always this: 1 day for country side tour (around Bohol), 1 day for island hopping and Panglao stay, 1 day for City tour, food trip and pasalubong shopping. You can mix it up however way you like but always make sure to make time for these three.
Day 1: Bohol countryside tour/ Around Bohol tour
There's just soooo many tourist spots now all over Bohol! So I'll just briefly describe some here:
(arranged in order from Tagbilaran City)
1. Bohol Blood Compact Site/Sandugo Shrine (Bool, Tagbilaran City)
This is a statue in honor of the blood compact (or what Boholanos celebrate as the "Sandugo"), between Miguel Lopez de Legazpi of Spain and Rajah Sikatuna of Bohol. In this historical landmark you will also have a good view of the sea and the place is also filled with souvenir shops along the highway.
2. Baclayon Church and other heritage churches
Bohol is also known for its old, massive churches that have been preserved ever since the Spanish regime. Although some were tragically damaged by the recent earthquake, it did not stop Boholanos from rebuilding while also preserving the old look of our churches. "The Baclayon Church of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Concepcion in Baclayon town is considered as one of the best preserved Jesuit-built churches in the region."
3. Clarin Ancestral House (Loay, Bohol)
I personally have not visited the place but I feel like I should go there one of these days! Haha. The place also has a café so I think it's a nice stop for a snack or even for dinner. You may check out their facebook page here for more info: Cafe Olegario .
Hop comfortably on board one of the floating restaurants and enjoy a buffet of favorite Filipino dishes while also being entertained by local singers and musicians. It's one of the old-time Bohol attractions, but I never get tired of going there again and again. Hahaha. The Adventure Park is quite new and it's also had some rave reviews online (Here: Loboc Ecotourism Adventure Park). You might want to try their cable car rides or the zipline that goes across Loboc River!
You can also take a short side-trip to the Twin Hanging bridge (still in Loboc) while on your way to the Bilar Man-made Forest. It's also a different experience and you'll enjoy walking back and forth the hanging bridges! Haha.
5. Bilar Man-made Forest
Of course...what is a Bohol trip without the iconic photo in the middle of the road in the man-made forest! You reaaaally feel like you just have to get a photo. But please be safe in doing so and also consider other people and vehicles that might be inconvenienced by your "jump shot" or whatever shot you're trying to make. 😄😄
6. Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary
When you think Bohol, the first thing that comes to mind would always be the beaches or the chocolate hills. And I believe next to that would definitely be the Tarsier. Known as the world's smallest primate, these tame and mesmerizing creatures are certainly one of Bohol's jewels. At the sanctuary you can see the tarsiers in their natural habitat, without cages or chains.
7. Simply Butterflies Conservation Center
I think I've only been here once but I really enjoyed the experience! The place has a butterfly garden and butterfly enclosure where you can just sit and enjoy watching the beautiful butterflies in so many different shapes and colors.
8. Chocolate Hills Adventure Park (CHAP), Chocolate Hills Complex
Unleash your adventurous side when visiting CHAP! Enjoy the bike zipline, surf zipline, rope challenges, wall climbing, and even experience rolling down a zorb ball! It's a fun experience for all. Know more about CHAP through their website here: CHAP
9. Danao Adventure Park
For the even more adventurous and thrill seeking people, go straight to Danao Adventure Park and experience the Plunge! You can also try their zipline and skyride. Their latest addition is the glass skywalk that I've always been curious to try. Hahaha. Soon when I'm brave enough! Know more about the rates and activities here: Danao Adventure Park
10. Sagbayan Peak
This is also a great spot to witness the beauty of the chocolate hills. The main difference for me is that you can also walk from one hill to the other. They also have a butterfly sanctuary in their facility.
If there's only 2-3 of you, hiring a car/van for rent might cost you a lot. With more or less the same itinerary above, you can avail a hassle free tour with this offer from Klook! Great rates and great reviews, it's a thumb's up for me!
Klook offers:
Bohol Countryside Tour: Countryside Tour-- Bohol
Bohol Countryside Tour with Panglao Highlights: Countryside Tour-- Bohol + Panglao
There are plenty more attractions on other parts of Bohol that I haven't mentioned above. In a separate post, I'll highlight the beaches, waterfalls, island hopping and diving attractions.
